Basically, I used to take 20 mg of xr each day...it would last me hours beyond what it does now, and I never felt a "crash" or any bad feelings when it wore off. Now, about a year and a half later, I am prescribed 30 mg/day but it is nowhere near enough. I usually take two doses a day (never exceeding 45 mg/day... I usually dont take it on weekends) and sometimes the end of the day isn't that bad, sometimes it's unbearable. No matter how it ends, over the past 6 months or so I've gradually developed a problem where once I am about 3-4 hours into my second dose I start dreading the crash and get very anxious/obsessive about it. And the more I obsess, the worse I feel. I have very bad anxiety that seems to get worse as time goes by, so I'm wondering if this has affected what adderall does for me. I'm really confused b/c I can't decide if the problem is adderall & I need to consider a new med, or if it's the anxiety that's causing the problem. Does anyone have ANY advice?

i had exact same issue as you, anxiety after it wore off, I was put on an SSRI antidepressant (lexapro) which completely took care of this for me.....is different for everyone but I had anxiety disorder before any of the meds
actually crash from high caffeine intake had same anxiety result

I agree with K.... you need to take in a couple factors as well. Are you drinking too much caffeine. I take 20-30mg xr in the am then 20 at 11 or so. I noticed that my coffee intake has gone down quite a bit and just letting the adderrall do the work. I have been there when the crash comes down like hell. Since, I weened off caffeine it has gotten better. You also got to look at outside factors that may be contributing to this as well. Heavy stress, school (if you are a student). I was a drinker every weekend and when I stopped anxiety got worse. I am currently on zyprexa 5mg for mood disorder and 400mg of lamictal. I can't say what you need but my night medicine z and l work great so when I wake up I am good the whole day. My doc prescriped klonopin for anxiety at 3 or 4 pm if anxiety is bad. If you drink coffee maybe take an espresso shot or a light coffee when you feel the crash. If you feel overstimulated after that then you need to go to a different plan. I feel the klonopin helps when I was going through that. When I elimated that caffeine intake (drinking starbucks every morning with addrall) everything went fine. I have stress as well, school, work, and a baby in 5 weeks. Let me know how it works for you...

as someone depressed, to conquer the negative crash after a day of adderall, i would drink alcohol until i passed out. this usually meant at least 6 beers since the addies raise the threshold.

Ask your doctor, and try and eat as much as possible (even though I know food can be thoroughly off-putting whilst on adderall) That's my best advice. And limit your caffeine intake to zero if you can, it's really not necessary on adderall IMO. drinking a bottle of water on the stuff in one chug will get your heart pumping. well at least it did for me.

I used to do the same thing after a comedown, slam alcohol. I was getting way out of control with that crap. I could go out that night after all day and drink till 3 am. Vicious cycle, honestly I can say now I have touched alcohol in 8 months. Coffee intake definately needs to be elimated when on adderall...

totally agree. no exaggeration, but even one gulp of caffeinated soda would get my heart pumping. in fact, i can't even imagine downing a whole cup of coffee while on adderall. i suppose the best side effect was my totally awesome workouts :P

too bad i wasn't eating anything cause of the adderall so the workouts were worthless.

Totally relate...the doc upped my dose from 30mg once a day to 20mg twice a day. It is kind of lame considering I have been up since 5 and the second dose is worn off. I go to school along with work and its crazy that I run out of gas and can't go to the gym as much. I can't drink coffee so I zombie out. I haven't tried a 3rd dose though. I have high tolerance due to being on it for a year straight.

I've been on it 3 times I'd say over the past 5 years, each time lasting 3-6 months. Anything more than that, and I am just physically exhausted and mentally tired and i swear i can feel the cobwebs in my head. I find that if taken in these short amounts (even 1-3 months) I could handle it. too bad generic wellbutrin doesn't work as nicely as generic adderall though.

haha, i used to have to get up at around 5 also when i was working ina restaurant, so scheduling my doses was really hard. i could go 4-6 hours on one dose and then try and take the second around noon. but there's a looot of hours between noon and bedtime, and the body is still in a sense "amped" even though one is coming down.

when used properly i believe adderall can promote productivity and even genius, but when abused, be prepared for some nasty side effects, potentially even psychosis. just look at all the speed freaks out there. they're basically on the same regimen that your doctor has described!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I don't know why I have to obsess about things so much. I've had anxiety/depression issues forever... I was on Zoloft for like a few years... don't really remember it doing much for me. Then my second year of college my counselor referred me to a doctor who tried to get me started on Lexapro, I took it for a couple days then pretty much forgot about it. So i don't know if antidepressants would help... I think this is something I need to figure out on my own.
