TM has long been available to students in South Africa through such leading institutions as the Maharishi Institute in Johannesburg. Now, through a new APR project, the availability of TM is expanding to include secondary school students in one of the poorest and more violent areas of Durban, a large city on the country’s east coast. Although this project is new to the students involved, the extensive groundwork that has made this latest development possible has been the result of much dedicated community-wide effort on the part of several local teachers of TM who understood the intensely stressful environment and the challenges facing young people, but also knew how effective TM could be in bringing them relief. And the 120 eighth grade Zulu students are only the beginning of this exciting growth. When the rest of the students in the Khetokhule School are instructed, and then yet even more students in nearby school, many hundreds more children in one of South Africa’s largest slums will be benefitting from the PTSD relief coming from TM. |
